"
The first few
weeks of August
have proven to
be some of the
best fishing of
the season.
There is a
common
misconception
that July and
August are
slower fishing
months, that is
not the case on
Clay Lake. The
walleye are
hanging out on
the sunken reefs
around Burnt
Island, Big
Island and the
Southshore Reef.
They are biting
on jigs with
leeches between
18 and 22 feet.
We are catching
big smallies in
the same area as
the walleye.
They are easy to
catch with slip
bobbers with
leeches as well.
Another great
thing about
August is the
weather. This
summers July and
August months
have been
beautiful. We
have had just
enough rain to
keep the water
level near
normal. Carmon
was out with the
Blackburn group
from Kansas and
caught lots of
nice eyes and
they even caught
this great
Northern on a
jig. Jerry
Harris from
Missouri caught
this great 44 in
Northern. The
biggest fish of
the week. Way to
go Jerry!! The
Morrow brothers
and their sons
had great
success again
this year. The
proof is in the
pictures."
