The middle of July was
hot, hot, hot! We had about 5 days where
the temperatures were above 85 degrees
and 2 over 90 degrees. Typical Ontario
weather though, a heat wave never lasts
very long. The weather cooled down a few
days later. We are still under the
average for rain and all of NW Ontario
remains on a fire ban. This only means
that there are no open fires allowed.
You can still cook your shore lunch with
a propane stove. The weather doesn't
seem to be affecting the fishing.
Fishing has remained phenomenal! Clients
are not having any trouble filling out
their limits. We had several groups tell
us they could have filled out in three
hours, but just wanted to keep enough to
eat. Dean guided the Schneewind group
from Minneapolis and caught some of
everything, walleye, northern pike and
smallmouth. The smallies are hanging
around the sunken reefs and islands. The
easiest way to catch them is to throw
upon the top of the reef or rig a slip
bobber and a leach and start reeling
them in. We are having a little cooler
weather now, but the long term forecast
is starting to heat up again.
